Library and Information Week is held annually across Australia and celebrates and showcases the work of library and information workers and the services they provide to their communities.
The theme of Library and Information Week 2025 (28 July to 3 August) is To read or not to read: Literacy matters.
Reading is a valued and enriching activity for many Queenslanders, and literacy skills are vital in equipping people to manage their daily lives. However, the ability to choose to read, let alone enjoy reading, is not always straightforward. Various factors, including socioeconomic challenges, learning barriers, time constraints, limited access to books and digital resources, and the evolving demands of literacy in a digital world, can make reading difficult to pursue.
During Library and Information Week, State Library of Queensland highlights its vital role in addressing these challenges and breaking down barriers. State Library supports literacy in its many forms – adult literacy, media literacy, digital inclusion, multicultural engagement, and equitable access for people living with disability.
State Library provides a diverse range of services and resources that support access to information, cultural preservation, lifelong learning, and meaningful community connection. As a dynamic hub for knowledge and engagement, both online and onsite, State Library is committed to ensuring all Queenslanders have the opportunity to read, learn, and participate.
Visit State Library in person or online to discover how we’re helping to make reading more accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for everyone.
